Reducing single use plastic and food packaging by promoting the Sunrise Plants Re-fill Store

Everyone is aware of the need to reduce single use plastic, packaging and food waste, but the reality is supermarkets and so called convenience shopping, have created a huge problem. Aware of this, and like David taking on Goliath, we’ve built a rather large REFILL store and greengrocery. Customers bring their empty containers and just refill them, paying only for the contents.

It’s super easy to do, cost effective and great for our environment!

If we all do something everyday, together we make a massive difference.

Alongside our REFILL STORE is our plastic free GREENGROCERY, full of all the finest fruit and vegetables you need. We support living a plant based lifestyle and all the benefits that provides. We are also proud patrons of The Vegan Society and The World Wildlife Fund.

What does Zero Waste mean?

The main objective of a zero waste policy is to rethink the current production and consumption system, whereby resources are taken from the Earth and which are later landfilled or dumped into toxic holes in the ground. Ultimately then, it is the principal of trying to send zero trash to the landfill and replacing our wasteful society with a more earth friendly approach.

We can all play our part towards a zero waste society by:

  • Refusing things we don’t need.
  • Reducing our consumption to only what we need.
  • Reusing as much as possible.
  • Composting our food scraps.
  • Recycle what we cannot refuse, reduce, reuse, or compost.

Why is zero waste important?

The zero waste movement is essential in order to break our unsustainable production/consumption cycle. Instead of just throwing stuff away, it’s vital that all resources are absorbed fully back into the system where posisble. Zero waste lifestyle living is the intention of not wasting resources. Alternatively, they rely on buying in bulk and investing in high-quality, biodegradable products.

As consumers, we have the power to make a change by:

  • Purchasing sustainably.
  • Spreading awareness about the importance of reducing waste.
  • Supporting responsible disposing.
  • Implementing actions one step at a time.

Reducing plastic waste

Plastic is dangerous for our planet, humans, and marine life. Rather than biodegrading, it photodegrades, which means it gets smaller but never truly goes away. Plastic production requires lots of resources in the manufacturing process. Products and the packaging they are delivered have to be designed, assembled, packed, transported, sold, and shipped etc.

This process increases the use electric energy, carbon dioxide, water, and human energy, among other resources. If we don’t move towards a circular economy, new landfills will keep popping up, the litter will fly around roads and paths, and plastic will pollute waterways and oceans. The ultimate goal is to move in the direction of nature, where trash is no longer a thing. Thus eliminating the general production of trash through conscious consumerism.
